Welcome, Hackademics!

What is this site about, you ask?

Hack: A clever use of technology, software, or modified items to solve a problem or increase efficiency.

Academe: The community of scholars and students engaged in higher education and research; also known as academia or acadème.

Hackademe: A website devoted to sharing clever uses of technology, software, or modified items to solve problems related to information overload, time management, organization, productivity, and other challenges faced by academics on a daily basis.

Hackademics: Members of the academic community who refuse to be defeated by information overload and make use of modern technology, software, and modified items to keep themselves organized and productive.

The site was created by Dr. T. Ryan Gregory, a biologist at the University of Guelph, Canada, in January 2010. This project was launched in response to the growing challenges of academic life in the information age, and the increasingly available (but often underutilized) solutions to these challenges. It is intended to be a free resource for scholars and students to enhance their productivity and reduce their stress levels.
